How do i reinforce my garage door when i connect it to the garage door opener?

i connected my garage opener to the door itself but every time i try to close it always comes back up. The sensors are working fine and there is no cause for it to that i but i do notice that the top of my garage door seems to crack and is breaking the top section of the door every time i try to open or close it with the opener.
