HP Photosmart C4100 scanner recognition problem?

Most probably USB cable problem. Take it out and try connecting again. If it does not work, if you have USB cable on some other equipment, try that and see if it works. If it does - get yourself a new USB cable. If not, take your scanner to the nearest HP Service centre
